Desde la Refinería de Cartagena se están distribuyendo en promedio 10.500 barriles diarios de este combustible a distribuidores mayoristas, garantizando el abastecimiento de las embarcaciones nacionales y algunas internacionales. El producto incluye una mezcla del 2% de biodiésel elaborado a partir de aceites vegetales, con aditivos que aseguran el rendimiento en motores marítimos y fluviales.
Su impacto ambiental es significativo: permitirá reducir cerca de 27.000 toneladas de CO₂ fósil al año, lo que equivale a proteger más de 150 hectáreas de bosque seco tropical. Este avance convierte a Colombia en un referente regional y al nivel de países como Brasil, además de fortalecer su compromiso con las metas de descarbonización planteadas por la Organización Marítima Internacional (IMO) para 2030 y 2050.
Más allá de los datos técnicos, este tipo de iniciativas tienen un trasfondo social y ambiental: al transformar los sistemas de transporte con energías más limpias, se contribuye no solo a mitigar el cambio climático, sino también a mejorar la calidad de vida en las comunidades costeras y fluviales que dependen de mares y ríos sanos para vivir.
Con este combustible, Ecopetrol suma un nuevo eslabón a la cadena de innovaciones en energías renovables que ya incluye jet y diésel coprocesados, reafirmando su papel en la transición justa que necesita Colombia: una transición que equilibre desarrollo económico, cuidado ambiental y bienestar social.
